Hunting with Passion: How technology fuels the love for the wild

My name is Caroline. I’m a 37-year-old, super enthusiastic huntress who lives in Norway. I work as a forest manager. My job is to help, advise, and ensure that forest owners take care of their forests in the best possible way. I have a partner, and together we have a daughter who is 11 years old. We also have two pointing dogs (Hungarian Vizsla) that we use for bird hunting.

I didn’t inherit hunting from early on. I actually grew up in a fishing family, so the outdoors has always been a big part of my life. But the interest in hunting developed and entered my life at the same time I met my partner 18 years ago. In contrast to me, he grew up in a hunter’s family and inherited the hunter’s gene that way. As soon as we got together, he dragged me out on hunting trips. I wasn’t that flabbergasted at first, but slowly and steadily, that little huntress-sparkle inside of me lit up into a big fire — a fire of passion surrounding hunting. I started to love everything the hunt gave me: not just the pure meat but also the excitement, curiosity, inner peace, and the growing respect for the game and nature. I’m so grateful for my partner who taught me everything I know about hunting today — and, of course, for introducing me to it.

I got my hunter’s license back in 2018, and I’ve been a very active huntress since then. I hunt all year round, both day and night. I also hunt many different species — everything from cloven-hoofed animals to smaller predators. Each type of hunting has its own specialties and rules. Sometimes I hunt with a team; sometimes I hunt all by myself, with or without dogs. These are the things that make hunting variable and fun.

At the beginning of my hunting career, I was only active in the daytime, but thermal devices like the ones HIKMICRO provides made it possible for me to hunt and spot game throughout the whole day. Being able to extend my hunting time is a great gift. Thermal devices are an incredible tool for those of us who hunt, but also for those who don’t. I was starstruck the first time I looked through a HIKMICRO lens, and I couldn’t stop watching. The products are simple to use, and you can’t get enough of that crystal-clear image. I never leave home without a HIKMICRO thermal product.

I hunt for the great-tasting, clean, and ecological meat, but also for the fur and the other resources I can get from an animal. I love to prepare and cook great dinners together with my family — for my family and for my friends.

As a mother, I find it necessary to teach my daughter everything I know about hunting, wildlife, and forest management. As I wrote earlier, I didn’t get that kind of upbringing myself, and today I see how important it is. So, my mission is to plant the basic seeds so that my daughter, later in life, can blossom and use that knowledge to teach her own kids the same things I taught her. I'm very proud of what she’s accomplished so far, how quickly she has learned, and I love how much we’ve already experienced together when it comes to hunting. Every trip fills up a new page in our hunter’s storybook. She also tells me all the time how much she looks forward to getting her own hunter’s license when she gets older.

I love everything about hunting — how calm it makes me feel, how happy I get while doing it, and how exciting it is. Nothing compares to the adrenaline and pulse you feel when you finally lay eyes on the right game. It’s pure happiness. The hunt gives me a great feeling of freedom, and it fills me with knowledge and respect. I truly appreciate the time spent outdoors, hunting or simply watching game in their natural behavior — seeing where they move, what they eat, how they react to each other, how many individuals there are, etc. I find it very educational, interesting, and fun. Hunting for game with weapons or simply observing them with handheld scopes is my everyday business — and I can’t get enough of it.

I also love how hunting brings people together — how stories, generosity, and traditions flow through generations, decade after decade, within families, partnerships, or friendships. There’s always an open door to a hunter’s house. That’s both honorable and respectful. There’s nothing more fun than exchanging hunting stories with people who truly appreciate it.

I’m very happy that I found the hunt — or maybe it was the hunt that found me.

Right now, it's spring here in Norway, and we’re still allowed to hunt for beavers. Where I live, we can hunt them until May 15th. I really appreciate beaver hunting. The hunt is versatile: you can sneak up on them, pass-hunt, or hunt from a canoe, etc. It’s also a perfect type of hunt to bring friends and family along. But mostly, I enjoy just sitting and studying them with binoculars — they’re a super interesting species.

This is the time of year when nature comes back to life after a long, cold winter, and it's absolutely fantastic to sit outside and be a part of the yearly awakening. As soon as the ice cracks, the beavers peek out after wintering in their huts. They are eager for fresh food, to stretch their legs, and get some fresh air. I hunt beavers for the meat — to provide food for my family and friends — and for the fur. Beaver meat is delicious and far from the terrible taste some might expect.

The hunt itself is challenging, but that makes it even more exciting and rewarding if you succeed. Beavers are nocturnal, so you can’t hunt them during the day. You can only spot them at twilight — right before sunset or sunrise.

This is where modern technology becomes a true game-changer. Using a HIKMICRO thermal imaging device makes a significant difference when tracking beavers in low-light conditions. These devices allow me to detect body heat through thick vegetation and total darkness, giving me a huge advantage in spotting them before they spot me. Especially during critical twilight hours, the thermal scope helps identify movement along the water’s edge or near their huts — movements that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

It’s also tricky to hunt them near water. If you’re unlucky, they can sink and disappear. So it’s important to shoot them while they’re on land. With HIKMICRO’s high-resolution imaging, I can clearly distinguish whether the beaver is on solid ground or in shallow water, reducing the risk of losing the animal.

They have a great sense of smell, so if the wind suddenly shifts, they’ll detect you and vanish like lightning. I’m committed to managing beaver populations in the best possible way. For me, that means locating huts along rivers, observing colony behavior, and choosing the right animal to take. If you remove the wrong individual, the entire family can dissolve — and they likely won’t return the next hunting season.

Thanks to HIKMICRO, I can observe behavior from a safe distance without disturbing the colony. The ability to monitor movement patterns over time greatly supports responsible and sustainable beaver management.

I really enjoy beaver hunting, and with the help of cutting-edge thermal imaging, the experience has become not only more effective but also more respectful of nature. For me, hunting isn’t just about the harvest — it’s about understanding the animal, the environment, and being part of a balanced ecosystem.

My passion for hunting runs deep. It’s a way of life, a connection to the wild, and a responsibility I take seriously. With tools like HIKMICRO at my side, I can hunt smarter, more ethically, and with greater success.

If you share the same passion for ethical and challenging hunting, I invite you to become part of the HIKHunter Family — a family of dedicated hunters who value technology, sustainability, and the true spirit of the hunt. Share your passion.
