HIKMICRO presents new smartphone modules Mini2 and Mini2Plus

Meanwhile, thermal imaging cameras have become indispensable tools not only in industrial maintenance and in the construction sector. They are also becoming more and more important in the home. With the new smartphone module Mini2, thermal imaging camera specialist HIKMICRO takes this development into account: Compared to the smaller sister model Mini1, the thermal imaging resolution has been significantly improved - and with Mini2Plus, a version with manually adjustable focus is now also available.

May 2023 Thermal imaging camera specialist HIKMICRO introduces the Mini2 and Mini2Plus, two new modules that turn Android smartphones and tablets into true thermal imaging cameras with remarkable thermal resolution. Compared to its sister model Mini1, the thermal image resolution has been increased to 256 × 192 pixels. The Mini2 is a lightweight (20g), low-cost thermal imaging camera module for inspecting electrical appliances in the home and troubleshooting heating, cooling, ventilation or plumbing problems. Equipped with the functional HIKMICRO Viewer app, the module enables the display of thermal images directly on Android smartphones and tablets. The module is easily connected via the USB Type-C interface, which also supplies the power. This means that the camera is always ready for use immediately, as it does not need to be charged itself. In addition, the connection is possible via a 40 cm long cable, which ensures the greatest possible flexibility during inspection.

The HIKMICRO Mini2 is designed for simple and quick temperature measurements. It is equipped with a fixed-focus HIKMICRO Vox detector (field of view/FOV 50° × 37.2°); with its wide 50-degree angle, it offers a large field of view that is ideal for scanning walls, floors, and facades to detect insulation problems, faulty insulation or water damage. With its good NETD < 40 mK (at 25 °C), the HIKMICRO Mini2 is of course not only suitable for domestic use but also for electrical inspections or the construction, HVAC, and plumbing sectors.

The Mini2's measuring accuracy is ±2°C in the range from -20°C to +100°C or ±2 % in the higher temperature range between +100°C and +350°C. Its comparatively high refresh rate of 25 Hz always ensures a clear, smooth image (in contrast to the 9 Hz that is often common with simple thermal imaging cameras and makes inspections more tedious and much more strenuous). Presets for measurements include spot centre, hot spot, cold spot and preset spot. There are 15 different colour palettes to choose from. Alarms (acoustic and vibration) can also be set. Power is supplied via the smartphone, the power consumption is 360 mW. There is no need to charge the infrared module beforehand; Mini2 is always ready for use immediately, and problems with a battery cannot even arise. With dimensions of only 42 mm × 11.2 mm × 22.5 mm, the Mini2 is extremely compact. It complies with protection class IP40 and easily passes the drop test from a height of 1 metre.
