Hunting Season in Lithuania

Aug 23, 2023

Given the strict regulations, hunting season in Lithuania by driving animals (Battue hunt) is allowed from 15 October to 31 January each year. However - foxes, mongooses, martens, wood and stone martens and black ferrets may be hunted in the open from 15 October to 31 March.

Hunting Species

There are also different quotas for different areas and different animals, so hunting clubs have to make sure that they stay within the limits of each species in order to have a control of the national animal population. Season can be even closed earlier due to lower quota or higher successful hunts for particular animals.

There are many species of animals in Lithuania. Invasive species are hunted throughout the year - populations of these animals are not allowed to expand. According to statistics, wild boar is the most popular game for hunters. Roe deer, foxes, beavers and ducks are hunted to a lesser extent. Other game, such as red deer, elk, badgers and hares, are hunted quite rarely.

According to an approximate analysis there are up to 80 wolf families in Lithuania, and its population is regulated strictly due to harm for farmers and other species. So taking in consideration that there are around 30,000 huntsmen in Lithuania and the quota of wolves each year is below 300, to have a successful wolf hunt is a big event.

Hunting Equipments

In Lithuania, the use of digital day & night vision (including thermal) sight optics for hunting would cause a lot of big troubles - it's forbidden to use or even to have such a device in a hunting area. But there is a simple way out of this situation - tracking animals with any thermal monocular or binocular, so the THUNDER series option as a multifunctional device, also FALCON and LYNX series monoculars are the most convenient option for huntmen, so they are the most popular too.

Due to its high resolution thermal sensor, HIKMICRO devices are extra useful in Lithuania wilderness or fields - high crops, bushy field areas, dense woods are way more "see through" with the help of thermal optics. One of the most important functions of thermal monocular is to find the game after the shot quickly, whether the shot was accurate or inaccurate.

Latest Unusual Cases of HIKMICRO Equipment Use

1. Saving Hurt Rabbits

We received a call from the client for advice about thermal cameras for watching rabbits in their territory. After a quick chat, we invited this family to our office.

The situation was stressful - while mowing the lawn, one young bunny, whose herd was living in the area, was hurt so badly that its life, unfortunately, was lost.

So this time, equipment wasn't needed for removing fauna from the yard, but opposite of that - saving it. They came with the idea of buying competitors' thermal camera, but after trying a couple of models of HIKMICRO FALCON, they noticed the quality of the view and other important functions that FALCON can offer, and decided to invest and buy the latest FQ50 model.

2. FALCON in Movie!

We lent a HIKMICRO FALCON FQ25 termal camera to the director of documentary about the community of men "Mens camp - REAL".

Thermal camera was used to record a scene of sauna in nature, to add captivating effect to the plot of the movie. Its premiere will take a place next year! Photo from the action attached.
