Hunting Season in Poland

Sep 21, 2023

The hunting season in Poland starts in April after the preparation of annual hunting plans based on the game inventory.

Hunting Species

In Poland, the following species are most often hunted: wild boars, red deer, roe deer, foxes, pheasants and ducks, both in the form of individual hunts, as well as collectively in the autumn and winter season. Currently, wild boar hunting is the most widespread in Poland, due to the damage caused to farmers, as well as the spread of the ASF virus. Hunters in Poland play a key role in the fight against the virus and often have to carry out sanitary shootings imposed by administrative authorities. They also provide blood samples necessary for testing, thanks to which it is possible to determine the location and degree of spread of the ASF virus in wild boars.

Hunting Equipments

Hunting for wild boar and predators takes place mainly at night and hunters can use optoelectronic sights during them. Although the Polish hunting law allows wild boar to be hunted all year round, many hunters pay special attention to the ethics of sparing mothers who breastfeed their young. For this purpose, a good quality thermal imaging monocular is ideal, in which, even in complete darkness, you can not only easily locate the game but also distinguish its sex. For several years in Poland, hunters can also use thermal and night vision sights to shoot wild boars, predators and invasive species. The use of optoelectronic devices not only increased the shooting efficiency, but also the safety of hunting at night. Personally, for night hunting, I prefer a set of FALCON FQ50 monoculars for observation and a CHEETAH LRF sight on a Haenel Jaeger 10 rifle in 9.3 x62 caliber. ALPEX has the shape of a typical classic riffle scope, so there is no problem with mounting it on traditional rings on every hunting rifles.

The FALCON thermal imaging monocular is also perfect for me during the day hunting for roe bucks, because it makes it easier to locate them in tall grass, thanks to which they can be approached more easily at the optimal shooting distance. When it comes to the CHEETAH sight, it is an extremely universal night vision sight, which thanks to the smart IR function is perfect both when hunting in the forest as well as in the fields.

Thermal imaging is also perfect for searching for injured animals, as well as for stocktaking for hunting plans. It is also invaluable when it is necessary to protect agricultural field, as well as farms building and agricultural machinery against intruders. Since hunting at night with thermal and night vision became popular in Poland, the number of hunting accidents has decreased.

*Before purchasing any thermal or digital day & night vision device, please make sure you adhere to the local ledislation and only use it when it is allowed. Our ambassadors come from various countries and travel a lot, which allows them to test different devices. We do not encourage or support the illegal use of our devices in any events.
